The story
Building on the 924, in 1982 Porsche created its own four-cylinder: an in-house 2.5 litre (literally half a 928 V8), widened arches, and that 50/50 weight distribution which makes it one of the most balanced cars of its generation.
From the original 163 bhp to the 250 bhp Turbo, the 944 dominated its class and sold more than 160,000 units — Porsche's great commercial success before the Boxster.
